Aqua Kyoto & Aqua Nueva

Two amazing restaurants each with its own terrace.

Aqua Kyoto and Aqua Nueva are two totally amazing restaurants sharing the same entrance on Argyll Street, directly opposite the Palladium.

Each restaurant offers its own cuisine; Aqua Kyoto has an open sushi bar and grill with an amazing range of Japanese dishes (this restaurant can offer a fully vegan menu); Aqua Nueva on the other hand offers modern Spanish cuisine.

The buzz literally starts as you walk in off the street, greeted by reception staff you are directed to the lifts, both restaurants are side by side on the 5^th floor.

The upstairs reception is striking but an understatement compared to the restaurants themselves.

Just in front of you is the main Spirit Bar which links the two restaurants, turn left for Aqua Nueva and straight ahead for Aqua Kyoto.

Both restaurants are distinctly sultry, sophisticated, both have large rooftop terraces, ideal for private events.

Aqua Kyoto

Essentially there are two options when it comes to private events at Aqua Kyoto; you can hire the restaurant itself which would give you the banquette dining area and the terrace or for larger events you could also include the Spirit Bar, capacities are below.

For seated events the set menus are based on the sharing concept and dishes will be brought to the tables continually over the course of the dinner.  For reception/standing events, the venue has a range of canape and bowl food (the freestanding tables in the banquette dining section would be removed to provide more floor space).

On the terrace a maximum of 80 guests can be seated under the cover of a retractable awning although the maximum capacity outside is 150 guests.  The terrace is also heated!

There are no restrictions in terms of noise and/or timings when the terrace must be vacated, smoking is permitted on the terrace too (so no need to send smokers back down to street level).

Aqua Nueva

Aqua Nueva is sleek and elegant.  A large central cocktail bar under the restaurants curved copper ceiling greets you, that is after you’ve walked past the rather striking blue bull who greets you.

For large events you have the choice of taking purely the bar area and terrace beyond which would give you a semi private event (with bookings being taken for the tabled seating area just inside the restaurant and to the left of the L shaped dining area in front of the bar and private dining rooms beyond) able to cater for a maximum of 150/160 guests for a standing event.

Or you could take the entire restaurant, giving you exclusive use of the space, including the private dining rooms to the rear of the venue (which could be used for cloakrooms) which would give you capacity for circa 400 guests for a standing event.

Catering wise this restaurant would not be able offer a fully vegan menu but do offer an extensive range of canape and bowl food for party events and, as with its sister restaurant next door, seated menus are based on the sharing concept and so dishes will be delivered to the tables continuously through dinner service.

I have to say that I do like this sharing dining option, it saves any jealously over dishes which look better than the ones you’ve order yourself and means literally, it’s a shared experience and, let’s face it, food is one of the most memorable aspects of any event.  It’s like a buffet without the queues or the need to leave your table.

To the rear of Aqua Nueva there are two smaller private dining rooms, La Casita which comes with its own private terrace also, and El Salon.

Both rooms can accommodate 15 in each for a seated dinner (El Salon x 20 if the venue hire in smaller chairs), both rooms can be combined to accommodate 30 for a seated dinner, 80 for a standing reception.
