Q&A Session

Julie Selfe, MD of Tigerlike Events (a full end to end event company) and MD of Stratfield Fairlane (a HNW individual concierge service), who also happens to be one of my closest and longest-standing friends, answers some questions that I’ve always wanted to sit down and ask her, over a cup of tea (or something stronger).

I’ve never asked Jules these questions before, we always seem to be putting the world to right when we’re together, rather than talking work …

So, here we go …

What led you into event organising? What was your first event and how long ago was that (if you’re inclined to say)?

During the time you’ve been organising events what has been your most memorable experience, good or bad?

You must have visited many hotels and locations, which hotel or location do you still hold in your heart and why? Was it the people, the venue, the weather(!), that time in your life when you realised what’s important, the experience, the culture or a magical sunset after a busy day?

What is your recommended approach to organising an event, something you feel is central to making an event a success?

Obviously not of your making, we are all swans on the water when we’re on-site, but what has happened during an event that you could never have anticipated and how did you handle it?

What’s the most ludicrous client request, or that request that leaves you with a sinking feeling, you’ve ever come across and did you make it happen?

Your businesses are involved in venue research, event planning, event experiences and itineraries and full on-site event management. What part of the process do you enjoy the most and why?

If you had to plan an event for yourself, for whatever occasion, where would it be and what would it look like? Money is not object by the way!

What’s the funniest thing you’ve witnessed and had to not laugh at? Where’s the best food you’ve tasted, what was it and what made it special?

What’s your proudest moment either to do with work or your personal life?
